We take a deep dive into live export with Annabelle Coppin. Annabelle has seen it all, having been awarded a Nuffield Scholar to conduct her research on the trade and participate in a diverse range of tours across the globe. Annabelle talks candidly about the 2011 cattle live export crisis, shines a light on Australian privileges and highlights why the live export trade exists with a particular focus on people and markets. Annabelle says, "That's the beauty of being an Australian; we have the choice and position to have such opinions. But I can't help but assume the priorities of society change with the comfort of a full stomach and a wet throat. The Livestock Collective is kicking off 2022 with Ali Quintana who was on a live export vessel at the time of recording. She didn't spend the festive season at home with her family, she spent it on a ship with cattle and buffalo. Ali has grown up surrounded by cattle, moving around stations across northern Australia with the family company. We chat to Ali about how she dedicates her time caring for livestock and what that means to her. Listen to one of our newest Livestock Leaders alumni from Australian Pork Limited, Luke Leyson, as he walks us through how to know the meat you are purchasing is local to Australia.Luke has been awarded the title of 'World's Best Sausage' but it didn't just fall into this lap. Luke started scurbbing floors at the local butcher when he was 13, he commenced his apprenticiship when he was 17 and he is now a butcher located in Adelaide with a global name for himself. Luke is heading back to the World Butcher Challenge hoping for another podium finish for the Australian Team.
